Food Information: Green tea leaves are made by going through the short withering, fixing (either Chinese pan-fired or Japanese steamed to heat leaves to keep green color), rolling, and drying process. Green tea is 0% oxidized.

Health benefits:

  • Antioxidant: rich in polyphenols, especially flavonoids, which is a major class of antioxidant compounds. Green tea has very high antioxidant activity.

  • Antioxidant - EGCG: Green tea is packed with Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a "super-antioxidant", it is bioactive. EGCG is significantly more potent than Vitamin C or Vitamin E in protecting cells from damage.

  • Heart Health: The EGCG in green tea can prevent "bad" LDL cholesterol from oxidizing. Oxidized LDL leads to plaque buildup in your arteries.

  • Brain Health: Tea contains caffeine and an amino acid L-Theanine. The combination of them can provide a unique cognitive state often called "calm alertness", that provides relaxed productivity and creativity, improved focus and attention. It has long term cognitive benefits, such as better structural organization in the brain, lower risk of Alzheimer's disease, prevention of plaque buildup and oxidative stress in brain. Green tea contains slightly more caffeine and L-Theanine than black tea.

  • Cancer Prevention: The super-antioxidant EGCG in green tea has anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties.

Traditional Chinese medicine considers green tea to be slightly cool in nature. Green tea's effects include clearing heat, reducing inflammation, promoting fluid production, relieving summer heat, and refreshing the mind. It is suitable for people with a warm body nature, during summer season, or after consuming spicy foods. Avoid drinking green tea on an empty stomach.

As a comparison, you can learn black tea nutrition and health benefits.
