Food Information: Black tea leaves are made by going through the withering, rolling, oxidation (fermentation to turn leaves from green to a coppery red or deep brown), and drying (firing) process. Black tea is 100% oxidized.

Health benefits:

  • Antioxidant: rich in polyphenols, especially flavonoids, which is a major class of antioxidant compounds. Black tea's full oxidation process creates more flavonoid content.

  • Antioxidant - theaflavins: The oxidation stage of making black tea transforms EGCG in green tea into theaflavins. Theaflavins has its unique way in antioxidant activity. It has similar anti-inflammatory and brain-protective benefits. In addition, it can signal your body to create its own internal Endogenous Antioxidants, which is often thousands of times more effective than the antioxidants we get from food.

  • Heart Health: The theaflavins in black tea help lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of stroke. Theaflavins may be even more effective than EGCG in green tea at lowering "bad" LDL cholesterol.

  • Brain Health: Tea contains caffeine and an amino acid L-Theanine. The combination of them can provide a unique cognitive state often called "calm alertness", that provides relaxed productivity and creativity, improved focus and attention. It has long term cognitive benefits, such as better structural organization in the brain, lower risk of Alzheimer's disease, prevention of plaque buildup and oxidative stress in brain. Black team contains slightly less caffeine and L-Theanine than green tea.

During the fermentation process, the EGCG molecules in the tea leaves are converted into theaflavins and thearubigins. So this process makes black tea milder in nature according to traditional Chinese medicine (green tea is cool in nature). Black tea is considered to warm the stomach, dispel cold and dampness, and promote digestion. It is suitable for people with a cold body nature, or during autumn and winter seasons.
